A Statistical Survey of Malignant Neoplasms among Chonnam Inhabitants (Second Report)

Abstract
For a statistical survey of malignant neoplasm¡¯s among Chonnom inhabitants, the biopsy files collected from January, 1976 to December, 1980 were analyzed at Department of Pathology and Clinical Pathology, Chonnam University Medical School.
The results were as follows.
1. Among 36,089 cases, the number of malignant neoplasm¡¯s were 5,939 cases (16.5%). The mean age of malignant tumors was 51.7 years and the sex ratio of male to female was 1: 0.96.
2. The preferred sites of involvement of malignant tumors were stomach (26.3%), uterus (17.7%), skin (4.7%), lymph node (4.2%), liver (4.1%) and breast (3.6%), etc. in decreasing order of frequency. The most common site of malignancy in male was stomach(33.8%), and in female, uterus(36.9%).
3. Histologically, adenocarcinoma (52.7%), squamous cell carcinoma (33.2%) and liver cell carcinoma (4.2%) contributed more than 90 per cent of all malignancies.
